Making the most of a short Australian stopover

If you can only manage a short stay in one of the beautiful Australia cities while on the way to another destination, we have a few tips to make sure you can make the most of your time here to see the sites.

Organise an airport transfer

If your hotel doesn't include an airport transfer in the price, it makes sense to organise an airport transfer to the hotel yourself. Flights to Australia are often long, and the last thing you want to do when you arrive is to find local currency, wait for a taxi and negotiate your way to the hotel. Instead, by using airport transfers, you can prepay for your transfer to the hotel and simply get off the plane and into the transfer vehicle which is set up for transporting people and luggage.

Tip: Be sure to let the transfer company know if English isn't your first language so the airport transfer company can hold up a name sign in your native language for ease.

Choose a handy hotel

While you are planning your stopover, brainstorm which sites you are most eager to see. Getting a hotel next to the CBD can be great for the arts and for eating, but you might also like waking up to a beautiful beach view, so plan your hotel locations.

Tip: If you are still deciding on hotels, it's a good idea to check the transit time between your hotel in different traffic conditions. You don't want to get caught in traffic when you need to get back to the airport for your connection.

Organise a city tour

If you have a hit list of tourist sites you want to see, including favourite beaches and bridges, it can be useful to book a specialist tour that can make sure you don't miss anything important. Ticking these items off your list can help you enjoy a short break and capture those great snaps for your social media feeds!

Tip: If you have a higher budget and/or extremely limited time, consider organising an individual tour. This can be an efficient and fun way to see both the famous sites on the city you are visiting, along with the hidden gems that are a little off the beaten track (such as great coffee shops or restaurants).

Have a wonderful time and make the most of your short Australian stopover with these tips!
